About Us
Red Frazier Bison is operated by a group of friends with a passion for nature, bison, hard work, and providing a quality product to their community. Zach Martin and Danielle Schafer own the ranch and have the assistance of partners Marc Huffman, Jennifer Karnes, and Justin Walker to help with the day-to- day operations. Zach’s immediate family is also a large part of the success of the operation and they deserve credit for their daily contributions.”
The Red Frazier team is fortunate to have a tremendous amount of support from family, friends, fellow ranchers, and business associates that all help make their vision for the ranch a reality. They are extremely grateful to each and every one of them.
There are several key differences in raising bison versus raising cattle. A major advantage to bison is that they need very little human intervention. With the proper amount of acreage for grazing, a clean source of water, sturdy fencing, and attention to breeding stock, a bison ranch quickly becomes a self-sustaining source of meat. The over-domestication and large production facilities associated with the beef industry have left cattle enhanced with chemicals and vulnerable to disease. In contrast, the practice of using growth hormones or steroids is strictly prohibited by the code of ethics of the National Bison Association. Bison producers take great pride in restoring the genetic and historical integrity of the animals they raise.
Red Frazier Bison meat is available for purchase at our retail location in Spencer, as well as several Farmer’s Markets in the area. In addition to offering frozen bison meat, Red Frazier started a mobile food trailer in 2016. Operated by Justin Walker, Red Frazier Bison Cuisine can be found serving a variety of bison meals in Bloomington, Indianapolis, and events in the region.
